Pilates



Pilates is a physical fitness system designed by Joseph Pilates proven to improve core strength, posture and flexibility.  You will develop longer, leaner muscles as well as heightened body awareness. 

Focus is placed on precise movements working from the deepest layers of muscles and following the 8 principles of Pilates: relaxation, concentration, alignment, centering, breathing, coordination, flowing movements and stamina.


Classes are taught by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, the industry leaders in exercise for health and rehabilitation, and emphasize the foundational principles of Pilates while offering modifications and variations to suit individual needs.


Is Pilates just for women? 
Since it does a good job strengthening lower abdominal and pelvic muscles that are important for a woman's childbearing, reproductive and urinary function, Pilates may be perceived as a "women's only" activity.  But nothing could be further from the truth!

Firstly, Pilates was invented by a man (Joseph Pilates). Secondly, plenty of male athletes use Pilates moves as a perfect complement to weight training and cardio. Want more proof? How about Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods, Hugh Grant and many other male athletes and celebrities? They use Pilates to maintain core strength, flexibility and function.



Why matwork classes?
The body can get very confused with controlling the effect of an external challenge source and learn to rely on big global muscles or small over-tasked ones to practice a reformer exercise and miss the target.  Class sizes are limited to 8 people to ensure you get the attention you deserve.

For students seeking a challenge Advanced mat classes are the hardest because you’re using your body all the time.
There is no equipment assisting or supporting you.

A mat work class is $25 per session.
